Velocity Angling Fishery Complex

LAKE HISTORY

VELOCITY ANGLING COMPLEX WAS FORMED 12 MONTHS AGO AND HAS BEEN OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC SINCE 29TH SEPTEMBER 2007, BEFORE THIS THE FISHERY WAS KNOW AS BLAKEWAY FARM FISHERIES.
UP UNTIL LAST YEAR THE LAKES WERE KNOWN TO MANY LOCAL ANGLERS AS A PIKE FISHERY.
THE 4 LAKES WERE FIRST DUG IN 1973 AND CAME ABOUT FROM A FORMER PEAT DIGGING AND FLOODED FROM THE LOCAL RIVERS.
THE LAKES FIRST STOCKING WOULD OF COME FROM THE RIVERS WHEN FLOODING OCCURRED, THEY WERE THEN FIRSTLY STOCKED IN THE EARLY 90S BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER WITH A MIX OF ALL SPECIES BUT MAINLY PIKE, PERCH, RUDD AND ROACH, THERE WAS ASLO A LOW STOCKING OF BREAM, TENCH AND CARP INTRODUCED.

SILVERWOOD LAKE IS JUST OVER 23 ACRES.  25 swims.

OAKDENE MIXED COARSE LAKE IS 5 ACRES.    8 swims.

GREENLANDS MATCH LAKE IS  3 ½ ACRES. There will be 17 swims.

PEARL POOL DISBALED BEGINNERS POOL IS ¾ OF AN ACRE. 5 swims.

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the first season at Velocity Angling Complex this is a facility that has a lot to offer the carp angler and the course angler on the 4 lakes present on the complex, not just the fishing but the other events and facilities that will be here within the next two years. I am hoping every year will improve and grow, with the more people that hear about us and come to fish these fantastic looking lakes set in such quite surrounding, which are on a site of special scientific interest, so you can imagine some of the wildlife living in and around the complex, Deer’s, and birds of pray are some of England’s  beautiful wildlife present as well as a good stock of good quality carp and course fish
There is a closed season which is for 8 weeks within the winter period again this is to allow the wintering water flow no disturbance when they are at there highest figures, also it allows the carp and fishery to be rested and general low key maintenance to be done.
This fishery has not been managed for over 25 years so you can imagine the lakes required a lot of work and still require a lot of work until the new owner is 100% happy (perfection is what the new ownership and staff strive to achieve).

STOCK INFO

The carp are pukka English bred  BROADOAKS from Rodger Ellis in West Sussex, that were introduced to Silverwood and Oakdene lakes at the beginning of September 2007 from a friend of mine Viv Shears of ECHO/ Sparsholt college and Steve Burley @ Burley Aquatics who was also Velocity Anglings Project Manager.
The carp are not familiar with angling pressure as they have been farm reared for over 12 years, which will mean hold on when you catch one of them.
All of these fish are proper English bred carp and not the European overseas fish which are slowly killing off our original strain.
This is one thing that Velocity Angling Complex is after (the good old English quality carp) and the old school natural lakes that are becoming far and few between (WHO WANTS TO FISH A HOLE IN THE GROUND).
At the moment there is no stocking registers for the originals that are present but believe me they are in there myself and syndicate members have seen some of them well over the 20-lbs mark, this was before the new stock was introduced.
There was 3000 carp (Strain not known) stocked into the lakes back in the mid 90s according to the previous owner for the pike, due to the main lake at the time being a pike water.
I am hoping that out of the original carp stocked in the 90s there will be at least 90 i.e. 3% of original stock still living in them, if this is the case I am sure most of these will be in the 20 and maybe 30 plus region, again these fish are over 12 years old. That will make the stock of at least 300 carp from 12lbs up to 44-lbs 8-ozs in the main SILVERWOOD Lake.
There are stocking registers to prove to you the angler that they are in there unlike some lakes that tell you they hold 30s and 40s but really there’s nothing in there over 25 lbs. most syndicate members were at the complex when they were introduced so by all means ask them.
The coarse lake (OAKDENE) has an impressive stock of stockie’s average size of 3-lbs 8-ozs with every type of coarse fish for those of you that just want to catch loads of small carp and other mixed species present in the lake,
The disabled beginners (PEARL POOL) this is perfect lake to start your new hobby on stocked with 450 carp up to 8-lbs and mixed course stock of bream, rudd, roach, eels, and the odd tench, the best catch was 82 rudd 24 carp 12 roach and 4 eels in a 4 hour haul.

Lastly GREENLANDS Match Lake is your typical canal lake 320+ yards in length and 20metres across at present the match lake is not in use and will be up and running by winter 2008 this will have a massive stocking of mixed native species.

FACILITIES

On the complex at present there are 2 porta loo toilets, breakfast and evening meals menu delivered to your swims, an opportunity to charge any electrical items and a quad drop off and pick up of anglers kit to and from swims service.

Future plans

For the future there is plan for a toilet, showers and washing block, electric charging lockers to charge any electrical items, freezers for any baits you don’t want to air dry, a small tackle shop with most of the leading tackle brand company’s end tackle, baits and goods, this will be located just off the site where the lakes are located, this will all be down to planning permission be accepted by Sedgemoor District Council.  There is a designated parking area at the entrance to the complex at the North East end of the complex, due to there being no vehicle movement around the complex this is because Natural England feels that this will cut down on wildlife disturbance.  There are plans by sometime in 2008 to have all the facilities up and running for you the angler, due the fishery being in it infancy this will all take time to do.
I am hoping to have a permanent café and maybe a licensed bar up and running some time within the next 2 years. As you can see there will be every facility available to you when you come to this fantastic venue, you wont be disappointed

GENERAL WEBSITE DETAILS

Across the website you will find some of the details for events that will be happening this year for syndicate members and day ticket anglers, there is a list of the fishery rules, price lists with the options available to you, the inter fishery competitions that will allow you entry into the BCACs to represent the complex at one of the BCAC eliminators qualifiers in 2008 and the future years to come and hopefully a place in the semi finals & finals
We are now having a winter workshop every year with www.carp-forums.com all details are on there forum site, so feel free to go on and have a look at what is a fantastic weekend with some of the pro anglers running the event, for those of you that want to join the syndicate, the membership application form is under the JOIN US tool bar to be downloaded and completed by you if you decide to join and be a syndicate member, (places are limited) so don’t leave it to late,  my address to send the form to is on the CONTACT page of the site which allows you to send your application back to me in the post it is a first come first served basis. This being the first season looks set to be a good one and hopefully with the support from you the member and day ticket anglers it will improve and grow every year.

VAC FORUM DETAILS

On the Website you will notice there is a forum to keep you up to date with everything going on at the complex, if I could I ask you all to register on the website forum as this is one of the best ways to pass comments or ask me any questions about anything you like with regards to the fishery or anything to do with fishing in general and I will post your questions and answers to you as soon as I possibly can.

COMPETITIONS & EVENTS

As well as 3 complex qualifier matches for syndicate members and day ticket anglers to allow you entry into the British Carp Angling Championships for the cost of £35 pounds each for syndicate and £50 for any other angler this is an opportunity of a life time for the price when you consider for an extra £15.00 on top of your day ticket price you could go away with over £600 pounds worth of entry into the BCAC eliminator and loads of bait,
There will be other events to attend such as a BCAC Eliminator proper hosted by Rob Hughes & Jon Shoes Jones some time in 2008 this has been confirmed as one of the 16 venues Country wide which is a honor to have in Somerset. There is also a school of coaching for carp anglers on different aspects of carp fishing and how to improve you as an angler so that you have the edge on your fellow carp anglers around you.
As already mentioned WWW.CARP-FORUMS.COM winter workshop which will be a yearly event at £50.00 for the weekend this includes your fishing as well fantastic value for money
There will be some articles from some of the leading carp publications at some point this year, from personalities that I know throughout the industry.

SYNDICATE MEMBERS.

There are 2 AGM’s on a yearly basis for renewals and also one for members to pass comments and ideas on improvements for the fishery.
How it works for renewals of membership I will send you a renewal form in the post at the beginning of the new season along with a start of season news letter which will explain the previous years fishing and catch reports.
I  require your money by latest 2 weeks before the start of the new season otherwise you will lose your place to someone on the reserve list, anybody who is a reserve on the following season’s waiting list will be sent a welcome letter along with a new membership application pack. It will be conducted on a first come first served basis and NOT a waiting list to go down, I feel it is unfair that people need to wait years to get on a venue.

FISHERY SPONSORS

At the moment they are;

Dick Harman @ GB Baits they are the main fishery sponsor and donate bait for the lucky anglers that qualify for the BCAC’s eliminator

English Carp Heritage Organization ECHO is one of the fisheries corporate sponsors through the staff (Ruth) at Yateley Angling Centre, which I have seen and spoken with on a few occasions. I personally feel that all carp anglers and tackle companies should be corporate or individual members of ECHO and help a very well run organization that is trying very hard to do there bit for the carp fishing industry.

Simeon Bond of Free Spirit Rods who I have dealt with over the last couple of years on and off with the tuition, Free Spirit is the main sponsor of the tuition as there rods are what we use for the long distance casting, feature finding and spoding lessons,
